The Director of Nursing (DON) is a registered nurse who oversees and supervises the care of all the residents, also providing direct resident/patient care.
Essential duties include overall management of the nursing department, staffing levels, policy development, resident safety, staff recruitment, and coordination with other departments.
The DON is responsible for department budgeting, reporting, staying current on regulations, participating in QA and state surveys, and conducting employee appraisals.
