Job Summary

  • The Custodian is responsible for maintaining and caring for all LU Facilities, on and off campus.
  • The Custodian is to maintain, provide and assure an esthetically pleasing, clean, sanitary, and safe environment in a variety of spaces including lobbies, hallways, dorms, bathrooms, showers, locker rooms, classrooms, offices, food service areas, and other public event areas.
  • Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year.

Key Requirements

  • high school diploma or a GED
  • Experience with residential, and/or commercial/ industrial cleaning preferred
  • Working knowledge of safe and efficient operation of cleaning equipment
  • Must be detailed oriented
  • Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers
  • Must be flexible regarding work assignments
  • Must be able to think logically and solve problems
  • Able to walk and stand on feet for an 8-hour period
  • Able to physically perform all essential custodial functions
  • Able to bend, crouch, kneel, and work on hands and knees
  • Able to walk up and down stairs
  • Must be able to lift to 50+ pounds
  • Able to perform repetitive motions
  • Able to work in dusty conditions
  • Able to work without allergies or sensitivities to cleaning agents
  • Able to clean and sanitize areas when sewage backs up or bodily fluid is present
  • Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily hours
  • Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required
  • Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required
