Job Description: The Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) is responsible for ensuring the safety and health of workers engaged in road and civil construction projects. This role involves implementing and maintaining safety standards, policies, and procedures to minimize risks and prevent accidents in the workplace. The WSHO collaborates with management, supervisors, and employees to promote a culture of safety and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Environmental Control Officer (ECO) is responsible for ensuring the protection of the environment from pollution and other issues that can impact health. An ECO checks the environment for conditions and situations that can lead to the release of contaminants, pollutants and disease-carrying animals and insects. Key Responsibilities: · Develop and implement safety programs specific to road construction activities, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures. · Conduct regular site inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety regulations and company policies. · Provide safety training and awareness programs for workers, supervisors, engineers and subcontractors. · Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence. · Review safety plans, method statements, and permits to work for road and civil construction activities. · Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices on site. · Liaise with government regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders to stay updated on safety regulations and best practices. · Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions. · Participate in safety meetings, committees, and emergency response drills. · Provide timely safety reports and recommendations to management.
