Job Summary

  • This one year training program is for recent or soon to be high school graduates and alternative school graduates, where trainees learn about state government, highway maintenance and construction work.
  • Trainees will work with a maintenance crew to repair and maintain roads, bridges, signs and facilities, helping to keep Oregon’s roads safe for the traveling public.
  • After completing the program, you may qualify for a Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 position and are encouraged to apply for permanent ODOT jobs at any time.

Base: $3,952/month increasing to $4,124/month after 6 months; Benefits: Health benefits, sick leave, 11 paid holidays, retirement benefits after 6 months

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED by July 1, 2026
  • Ability to obtain Class A Commercial Learner Permit within 60 days
  • Ability to obtain CDL-A with tanker endorsement within six months
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Maximum 45-minute response time to Detroit, OR
