The NC Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician II for its Asheville office, responsible for supporting construction inspection, surveying, and material testing. The ideal candidate will possess technical skills in construction and engineering, as well as the ability to work independently and maintain positive communication with various stakeholders

Job Summary

  • This position supports higher level technicians and engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying, material sampling and testing, and construction traffic control.
  • Employee may supervise lower-level technicians and CEI personnel and help in coordination of work assignments.
  • The selected candidate will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and will be subject to an NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Key Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing
  • Acquiring various certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, Borrow Pit Sampling, and OSHA Certifications
