Job Summary

  • The Associate Dean, Library Technology contributes to the development of the McGill Libraries by taking responsibility for providing high-quality and robust information systems and technology services in support of research, teaching and learning activities.
  • The incumbent provides strong leadership ensuring management, strategic direction and implementation of digital initiatives, discovery services, digitization, and digital preservation.
  • The Associate Dean serves as an active member of the Library Cabinet, sharing responsibility for strategic planning and resource allocation.

Key Requirements

  • Master's degree in library or information science or equivalent
  • 5+ years in managerial role, preferably academic library
  • Lead and manage librarians, professionals, and support staff
  • Active scholarship and professional service for tenure track
  • Develop clear vision for portfolio within strategic objectives
  • Leadership, planning, project management, budgeting
  • Knowledge of general IT industry trends
  • Ability to foresee technological ramifications and lead change
  • Experience completing complex technology projects
  • Understanding of information organization and access
  • Knowledge of digital preservation and repository platforms
  • Familiarity with traditional and emerging digital technologies
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility
