  • This one year training program is for recent or soon to be high school graduates and alternative school graduates to learn about state government, highway maintenance and construction work.
  • Trainees receive hands-on training including safety rules, job hazard assessments, radio communication, first aid and CPR, and training to obtain a Class A commercial driver license.
  • As a full-time limited duration employee, you are eligible for health benefits, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement benefits, and enrollment in the Oregon Savings Growth Plan after six months.

Base: $3,952 per month starting; increases to $4,124 per month after six months; Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 position range $4,312 to $5,988 per month after completion; Benefits: health, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, Oregon Savings Growth Plan

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED between Jan 1, 2023 and July 1, 2026
  • Maximum 45 minute response time to Burns, OR for emergencies
  • Ability to obtain Class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire
  • Must be at least 18 years old with one year driving experience by Sept 1, 2026
  • Ability to obtain CDL-A with tanker endorsement within six months or possess valid CDL-A
  • Valid Oregon driver license and acceptable driving record
  • Pre-employment driving record and FMCSA checks
