Job Summary

  • A successful Initial Order Buyer is responsible for contracting initial order contracts for upcoming launches as well as service parts, is customer focused, influences change, and accepts ownership for accomplishing program launch deliverables.
  • Key responsibilities include conducting supplier meetings, removing roadblocks, resolving issues related to packaging quotes and minimum order quantities, sending RFQs, negotiating packaging, validating piece prices, and processing initial order contracts.
  • This role requires close collaboration with Engineering, Supply Chain, the broader purchasing team, and other stakeholders to align supplier packaging with GM's volume requirements and ensure service plans align with engineering.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Finance or related field
  • 1-2 years of purchasing experience
  • 1-2 years of supply chain experience
  • 1-2 years experience with commodities, materials and products
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Intermediate MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
