The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Worker I to assist in the maintenance, repair, and construction of roadways. The ideal candidate will have experience with hand tools and equipment operation, with the ability to work in various weather conditions and under safety regulations

Job Summary

  • Work in this class primarily involves the operation of standard hand tools, power equipment, vehicles, and heavy equipment utilized in the preventative maintenance, repair, and construction of roads and roadside features for the State’s highway and roadway systems.
  • The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date.
  • Employees will be subject to outside extreme environmental conditions, in addition to hazards at highway construction sites, including heavy equipment and highway traffic.

  • No convictions of an alcohol or drug related traffic offense within the past five years
