Job Summary
This one year training program is for recent or soon to be high school graduates and alternative school graduates to learn about state government, highway maintenance and construction work.
Trainees receive hands-on training in basic highway maintenance, safety rules, job hazard assessments, radio communication, crash response, flagging, first aid, and CDL training.
As a full-time limited duration employee, you are eligible for health benefits, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement benefits after six months, and participation in the Oregon Savings Growth Plan.

Key Requirements
high school diploma or GED between Jan 1, 2023 and July 1, 2026
maximum 30 minute response time to La Grande, OR location
ability to obtain Class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire
must be at least 18 years old by Sept 1, 2026
one year driving experience required
valid Oregon driver license at time of hire
ability to obtain CDL-A with tanker endorsement within six months or possess valid CDL-A with endorsements
acceptable driving record and pre-employment driving checks
