  • This one year training program is for recent or soon to be high school graduates and alternative school graduates to learn about state government, highway maintenance and construction work.
  • Trainees receive hands-on training in highway maintenance, safety, job hazard assessments, radio communication, crash response, traffic control, first aid, and commercial driver license training.
  • As a full-time limited duration employee, you are eligible for health benefits, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement benefits after six months, and enrollment in the Oregon Savings Growth Plan.

Salary

Base: $3,952 per month starting; increases to $4,124 per month after six months; post-program salary range $4,312 to $5,988 per month; Benefits: health, sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, Oregon Savings Growth Plan

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED between Jan 1, 2023 and Jul 1, 2026
  • Maximum 30 minute response time to Enterprise, OR location
  • Ability to obtain Class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire
  • Must be 18 years old and have one year driving experience by Sep 1, 2026
  • Ability to obtain CDL-A with tanker endorsement and no restrictions within six months
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record at time of hire
  • Pre-employment driving record and FMCSA checks
  • No prior completion of ODOT High School to Highway program
