Job Summary

  • As a Research and Experimental Mechanic at Caterpillar Inc., you will continuously improve process efficiency by performing the assembling, fitting, and adjusting and/or dismantling required in the construction or disassembly of experimental engines.
  • Individuals will work on experimental, pre-production, postproduction and legacy engines that range in size from 4.0 L to 340 L.
  • All tools required to perform tasks in your job role will be provided by Caterpillar.

  • assembling, fitting, and adjusting experimental engines
  • work from Pro-E models, VisView models, blueprints
  • fitting for cooling, air, hydraulic connections, and wiring harnesses
  • installing test leads, thermocouples, cylinder pressure pick-up gauges
  • adjustments on valve train, gear train, fuel system, cooling system, oil system
  • fabrication of intake and exhaust piping
  • use precision gauging tools
  • use common mechanic's hand tools, portable power tools

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years full time working experience in diesel engine service and repair industry
  • OR 2 year technical degree within diesel power technology, Industrial Engine Power Technology, or Caterpillar Dealer Service Technology
