Job Summary

  • This position serves the citizens of North Carolina by ensuring the safe and efficient operation of state transportation infrastructure through skilled mechanical work.
  • The selected candidate will perform a range of tasks involving servicing and repair of mechanical systems for gasoline and diesel powered automotive and heavy equipment.
  • Employees must be able to safely operate equipment for testing purposes, read schematics, and maintain detailed records of fuel and oil dispensed daily.

Skills & Requirements

Must-have

  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement
  • Ability to operate fuel and lube truck and Low-Boy
  • Experience in tire repair and replacement
  • Preventive maintenance on light, medium, or heavy-duty trucks
  • Proficiency with at least two shop tools like wrenches or diagnostic equipment

Nice-to-have

  • EPA certification as Type I, II, III or Universal technician
  • Ability to read OEM manuals and schematics
  • Experience working in inclement weather and emergency situations
  • Strong commitment to safety leadership
  • Physical strength for heavy lifting and moving parts

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid NC Class A CDL with Tanker (N) endorsement
  • Furnish complete set of mechanic tools
  • Pass pre-employment drug testing and background check
  • Obtain EPA certification if required by specific duties
