Job Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) is a registered nurse responsible for the overall management of the nursing department, including staffing, policy development, and ensuring resident safety and respect.
Key duties include recruiting, hiring, and training nursing staff, coordinating pharmacy services, acting as a liaison between the facility, physicians, and families, and managing department budgeting.
The DON must also stay current on regulation changes, participate in quality assurance and state surveys, coordinate MDS and care planning, and provide direct resident care as needed.
