Job Summary

  • It’s the mission of the NC Department of Transportation to connect people, products and places safely and efficiently with customer focus, accountability, and environmental sensitivity to enhance the economy and vitality of North Carolina.
  • Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair and construction of State maintained roads.
  • This position will monitor tasks performed by inmates and other transportation workers, respond to emergencies such as snow and ice removal, downed trees, and traffic control cleanup during normal business hours or emergency call back situations.

  • Operation of Category B Maintenance equipment
  • Road maintenance and construction procedures
  • Traffic control device installation
  • Asphalt pavement repair

  • Experience with pipe installation

  • Ditch maintenance
  • Installation of erosion control devices

Key Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Three years operating related equipment experience
  • Current or ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License within 360 days
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
