  • The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) is a core member of the healthcare team assisting care managers in managing the overall health of enrolled populations by improving recognition, treatment, and management of psychosocial/behavioral problems and medical conditions.
  • BHCs provide clinical mental health consultation services, participate in the management of psychosocial aspects of chronic and acute diseases, apply behavioral principles to address lifestyle and health risk issues, and consult/co-manage mental disorders and psychosocial issues.
  • Essential responsibilities include acting as a care team member, promoting change efforts, documenting in the same medical record, engaging patients, providing clinical interventions such as assessment and short-term counseling, and connecting patients to higher levels of care and community resources.
