Job Summary

  • This one year training program is for recent or soon to be high school graduates and alternative school graduates to learn about state government, highway maintenance and construction work.
  • Trainees will work with a maintenance crew to repair and maintain roads, bridges, signs and facilities, helping keep Oregon’s roads safe for the traveling public.
  • As a full-time limited duration employee, you are eligible for health benefits, sick leave, 11 paid holidays a year and retirement benefits after six months.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED between Jan 1, 2023 and July 1, 2026
  • Ability to obtain Class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire
  • Must be at least 18 years old by Sept 1, 2026
  • One year driving experience required
  • Valid Oregon driver license at time of hire
  • Ability to obtain CDL-A with tanker endorsement within six months or possess valid CDL-A with endorsements
  • Maximum 30 minute response time to emergency call-outs
  • Acceptable driving record and pre-employment driving checks
