Job Summary

  • As Essential Personnel, you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents.
  • Grounds employees are essential to the overall success of Commencement (May) and Orientation and Move-in (August) weekend events and special events that are scheduled in facilities throughout the year and must be available to work schedule and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.
  • This position might require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or be willing and able obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work from various aerial lifts and heights.

Key Requirements

  • High school degree or GED
  • Minimum of 3+ years of related experience preferred
  • State Driver’s license and insurable
  • Working knowledge of grounds maintenance and equipment operations
  • Pressure washing, asphalt, concrete, construction, lawn care, landscape and/or hardscape experience preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 75+ pounds
  • Ability to perform duties outdoors in typical Virginia Climate
  • Willing to obtain aerial lift certifications
  • Have or be able to obtain a chemical spray certification
  • Basic knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance
  • Ability to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours
