The Nurse Practitioner functions independently as an advanced nursing professional and has responsibility to coordinate and assess care needs, create and modify the plan of care, make appropriate referrals for patients in collaboration with the hospice and palliative care interdisciplinary team.
The NP, under direct physician order or by physician approved protocols and within their scope of practice may independently order opioids, adjusting dosages and change other drugs, as patient condition requires.
